Antique Brass Repoussé Slipper Box – Floral Embossed Fireside Storage Casket
INFORMATION:
Antique brass repoussé slipper box, probably dating from the late 19th or early 20th century.
The box has an attractive embossed and hammered brass exterior, decorated with floral motifs, foliage and a raised beaded border. The hinged lid is prominently marked “SLIPPERS” and opens to reveal a fitted interior lined with faded green fabric.
Traditionally used as a fireside slipper box for storing slippers and keeping them close to the fire, this is a decorative and highly unusual antique household item. It stands on four small feet and retains its original hinges and side chain supports.
The box has a pleasing aged patina and substantial signs of age and use, including tarnishing, scratches, dents, surface marks, discolouration and wear to the interior lining. Please examine all photographs carefully, as they form part of the description.
CONDITION:
Overall fair antique condition. The brass has extensive tarnishing, darkened areas, scratches, dents, abrasions and surface wear throughout. The raised decoration remains visible but has wear and rubbing. The green fabric lining is faded, stained and worn, with loose and frayed areas around the edges. Hinges and chain supports are present. The box has not been tested for use beside a fire and should be regarded as a decorative antique item.
